Journey north over the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Woods National Monument. Enjoy solitude and peace as you stroll through 1000 year old trees towering 260 feet tall. Muir Woods is the only old-growth coastal redwood forest in the Bay Area and one of the last on the planet.

Continuing on our excursion, soak up the stunning scenery as we travel father north into Sonoma Valley, one of the most prized wine regions of Northern California. Once in the Wine Country, we will spend the afternoon sampling wines at three to four wineries.

As our day unwinds and we journey back to San Francisco, enjoy a picture stop at the Golden Gate Bridge to witness the awe-inspiring view of the city from the Marin Headlands - a picture perfect ending to one memorable day.

Muir Woods and Wine Country Tour from San Francisco Itinerary

The day begins at 9:00 am heading North across the Golden Gate Bridge which offers great views of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island and the skyline of the city. In the Marin Headlands we wind our way through the coastal mountains and along the base of Mt. Tamalpais (the highest point in the North Bay region) on our way to Muir Woods National Monument.

The Coastal Redwood is the tallest tree species in the world. These trees only thrive in Northern California and Oregon, due to the thick fog that blankets the west coast in the summer months. Muir Woods is the only surviving stand of Old Growth forest in the Bay Area today. In Muir Woods you will have 1 1/2 hours to wander amongst these towering giants. The sights, sounds, and smells of this living museum are sure to reconnect you with a natural world.

The group will reunite before noon and travel to the wine country where we will spend the afternoon sampling fine Sonoma County wines. Taste a variety of white, red, and dessert wines at wineries such as Homewood, Cline Cellars, and Benziger Family among others. A stop for lunch will be incorporated into the itinerary, either at a winery or at the Historic Sonoma Town Square. At Sonoma Square, you will have the chance to visit the Mission San Francisco de Solano, the northernmost California Mission, taste cheese samples at the Sonoma Jack Cheese Factory and peruse the boutique shops that surround this center of commerce.

Traveling through the Northern California wine country you will see the beautiful valleys that have supplied the world with award-winning wines for over 60 years. The landscape of rolling hills laced with rows of wine grapes is impressive and provides a romantic backdrop for memorable photographs.

On our way back to San Francisco, enjoy a stop at the Golden Gate Bridge to witness the awe-inspiring view of San Francisco from the Marin Headlands. The tour will end with a hotel drop-off at around 6:00 pm.

This fun-filled excursion is a must for those staying in San Francisco for more than one day -it combines two of the most popular tourist destinations outside of San Francisco in one day. This tour provides a more personal touch as we only take groups of 15 or less. We also utilize eco-friendly air-conditioned vans that are powered with 100% Biodiesel (a vegetable oil-based) fuel.

This tour is not available on Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's Day.
